Rwanda
Although Rwanda has seen considerable progress since the genocide 20 years ago, the country still faces obstacles. Particularly conflicts over land and significant human rights issues that need to be addressed at the community level. Through combating social injustice, managing conflicts over property, and protecting human rights, Centre d’Information et Mobilisation Social (CIMS) work to consolidate peace in Rwanda. Their impressive track record includes: helping 600 marginalised groups to appeal their property rights; resolving 235 land conflicts; and conducting appeals for 260 children from landless families, enabling them to get support for primary and secondary education.
CIMS was founded in 1999 in Eastern Province. The main areas of work cover managing and resolving land conflicts and promoting better agricultural development. CIMS has also trained people with skills for peace and conflict management and given professional training on micro-finance and how to carry out revenue-generating activities, to reinforce peace for vulnerable groups. CIMS also actively researches and analyses rural conflicts with the goal of helping communities find their lasting solutions to the issues facing them.
